This is my third iPad case-related purchase. It’s the best one.

Background:

The day I bought my iPad at the Apple Store, about four days after the WIFI versions were first released, the Apple Store had three cases (none of them the Apple-branded one): they had Belkin, and two versions of InCase. I asked the Genius (or maybe he was only a subgenius, since he was working the floor) to open the more expensive InCase case and realized it didn’t cover the front of the iPad which it inferred on the packaging, so for $10 less bought the lesser InCase rubber/silicone shell.

At home my wife and I both decided the flat boxy shape of that shell didn’t hug the iPad tightly enough and it was almost as heavy. We returned it for a refund a week later since the Apple Store still had no other options at that time.

Next up I bought a hard shell case with a “free” screen protector from [...]. They said it was 35.99 marked down to 19.99 and showed a photo of someone twisting it as if the sleeve/case was fully flexible. Several people gave it good reviews on their site.

The screen protector was in packaging that said it was an “LCD laptop screen protector” with a new label slapped over the packaging stating it was for iPad. The shell case did not have a sealed package just a used plastic bag over it. The case did not fit my iPad and was not flexible. I returned it, again for a refund, though the company emailed me they would send out another if I wanted. They also called me later and reiterated the offer but I took the refund.

I then found this miniSuit case on Amazon and it was in stock. There were other cases that looked like they MIGHT be good, but at 39.99 and above. And most were not in stock. I bought the miniSuit black case with black silicone shell.

The rubber shell is silicone similar to the case I bought for my iPod Touch over a year ago. It fits snugly and is lightweight.

The LCD screen protector is similar to the one that Handhelditems offered. Unfortunately it was a problem since the instructions on the package were for a different protector – the one included had two tabs and both sides were sticky – I pulled the cover down as instructed and it stuck to the iPad so I assumed I had the correct side. It stuck on nicely but when I pulled off the cover to the top side it was “sticky-er.” I had to pull the whole protector off and throw it away. I plan to purchase an anti-glare protector to use outside so this was not a deal breaker. If I had guessed the stickier side correctly I probably would have left it on and not even made this observation.

The small neoprene case fits the iPad (with silicone shell on) tightly but with enough room to also insert the white padded foam filler they used in shipping. You could place it over the iPad’s screen for extra protection in the case (if you want to). The case has an outside zippered pocket that my stand, my microfiber cleaning cloth and Pogo stylus (recommended for Art Studio or other art apps) fits in. The case also has two elastic bands on the inside corners to hold the iPad, though they are not necessary. There is also a small miniSuit cleaner pad that can be attached to the zipper of the case or put in the pocket, and the screen protector also includes a standard small eyeglasses cleaning cloth.

For the price, relative to what else was shipping when I bought it, it is an excellent product.

iPad Silicone Skins

If you have recently bought the new iPad, then you need to start looking for a way to protect it. These devices are the newest technology, and have amazing features, but the fact is if you drop this baby you are in trouble. You are not only in danger of breaking or severely defacing your iPad if you drop it, keeping it in your back pack and moving it around can and will subject the delicate surface of the iPad to a lot of scratches. You want something that will cover your iPad, protect it from scratches and damages far worse. Everyone likes to keep their new toy in mint condition, and getting an iPad silicone skin is going to make that much easier than before.

Keeping Your iPad Protected

There are quite a few options for keeping your iPad in the condition that it came in. An iPad silicone skin is a popular choice as they provide a good amount of protection and increase your devices durability. usually they are made of silicone as the name suggests, and some also include thin Vinyl. You can get a huge variety of colors and designs. A popular choice now is a thin clear skin, it is much more ambiguous and you won’t even notice it is on. Some advantages to using a silicon skin is that the material, silicone helps to provide cooling for the iPad because it insulates the heat that is generated by the battery. It is a soft rubbery material which means it is really easy to grip and it won’t slip easily out of your hands.
